Integrating Coordination Features in PVM
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we focus on coordination for parallel systems controlled by the PVM software package. We describe several extensions which allow the use of extended coordination features in PVM. The extensions are designed to support coordination metaphors like gener-ative communication or client server programming. They t into the general philosophy of PVM by adopting an approach to coordination that retains the principles of coordination, while presenting a more pragmatic and traditional interface to the user.

PT-PVM : A Portable Platform for Multithreaded Coordination Languages
This paper describes a portable message passing and process management platform for multithreaded applications. PT-PVM is based on the PVM system and provides message passing and process management facilities at the thread level for a cluster of workstations running the UNIX operating system without changing the PVM system. Moreover PT-PVM introduces advanced programming abstractions like gener...
متن کاملA Distributed Linda-like Kernel for PVM
In this paper we describe the implementation of a Linda-like system on top of PVM. The kernel was initially developed for a Transputer based system[4]. For flexibility the system was ported to PVM. This paper outlines how the York kernel works, how it currently performs with respect to a similar system and possible future developments for the PVM version.
متن کاملIntegrating Zipcode and PVM: Towards a Higher-Level Message-Passing Environment
This paper describes the architecture and implementation of an integrated message-passing environment consisting of Zipcode and PVM. Zipcode is a highlevel message-passing system for multicomputers and homogeneous networks of computers. PVM is a relatively low-level message-passing system designed for multicomputers and heterogeneous networks of computers. Although PVM provides a workable and e...
متن کاملProgramming a Workstation Cluster with PVM and Linda: a Qualitative and Quantitative Comparison
In this paper a comparison between two of the most signiicant and common tools for distributed computing, PVM and Linda, is carried out. These tools may be used to program a cluster of workstations as well as several commercial multiprocessors and multicomputers and are based upon two completely diierent computational paradigms: message-passing (PVM) and the shared tuple space (Linda). The pape...
متن کاملNew Features of PVM 3 . 4
This paper reviews the progress and design ideas for the new features for PVM 3.4 and describes results of our work on the longer range features that may one day be a part of the PVM system.
